Derbyshire County Council response about A52 sign on Moor Lane

"I refer to your E-mail to Chris Jackson on 19th April 2010 regarding the traffic sign on Green Lane at Ockbrook .
If I can expand a tad on the statement made by our press office and quoted in the DET report :-
We have been in correspondence with two residents of The Ridings regarding their concerns that some HGV drivers travelling down Moor Lane were mistakenly/inadvertently using The Ridings to try to gain access to the A52 , instead of remaining on Green Lane and thence to Bare Lane , Flood St & Victoria Avenue . It seems it might be the case that some SatNavs direct drivers to use The Ridings to the Church St/Cole Ln/A52 junction , as it may be a few yards shorter , but even that is questionable .
The residents had cited a number of instances , including one where an HGV had tried The Ridings route at school dispersal time and got entangled with all the parents cars .
I subsequently wrote to TDG to ask that they get the message across to all their drivers [ even though there was no evidence that it was a vehicle from their site ] that The Ridings wasn't to be used , and arranged for an  "A52 straight ahead" sign to be placed on Moor Lane just before The Ridings junction to reinforce the message , together with another sign at the junction advising all drivers that The Ridings is "Unsuitable for HGV's" . I presume you/your Members have seen this sign as well . I took this as being a reasonable and responsible response to the concerns expressed by your own villagers , and particularly in view of the safety of the school-children at the Primary School .
The sign does not direct any more drivers [ of any type of vehicle ] to use the Moor Lane/Bare Lane route to the A52 . These drivers have already made that decision at the A6096/Moor Lane junction .  The sign merely reduces the likelihood of an errant driver trying to use The Ridings by mistake . I believe your villagers who live on The Ridings support this move . If I am wrong and they would all prefer that the sign[s] be removed , please let me know . "
